About
Jonathan Fordham
Jonathan is an integrative counsellor, whose experience in private practice counselling adults has led him to believe that there is an amazing and mysterious power in the therapeutic relationship between the client and the counsellor to facilitate change at a foundational level for the client.
His practice is informed by ‘We Psychology’. Jonathan says: “I draw on various therapeutic models, depending on the needs of the client, and the one I have come to increasingly recognize as the most powerful, is the ‘We Psychology’ of Fritz Kunkel, who stated that “The real Self is not ‘I’ but ‘We’”.
Jonathan continues: Being with clients and listening to them talk about their lives, it became clear that suffering – the symptoms and complaints – are the stimuli to begin to replace rigid patterns and habitual reactions with creative growth. I understood that while perception marks important progress, more than intellectual insight is needed. And so I work collaboratively with clients towards ultimate aims of, in Kunkel’s words, “Real growth, new responsibility, and creative power.”
